Virgil Abloh Gives A Preview of His Debut Louis Vuitton Menswear Collection

The highly anticipated first collection of the newly appointed Louis Vuitton menswear creative director will be showcased on 21 June.

After teasing with a new LV sneaker, Virgil has just revealed a bespoke non-monogrammed black trunk, ceramic strapped chain bags and a bright outfit combo ahead of his inaugural Spring/Summer 2019 season.

The Louis Vuitton trunk has been a central symbol for the eponymous luxury brand since the 19th century and Virgil's take on it is the most unique. According to Hypebeast the monogram-less trunk is embellished entirely with all-black details and boasts a silhouette that mimics a portable guitar amp. Polishing the design are leather handles, matte metallic drawbolts, and a sturdy clasp to securely stow away any precious items.

Later, more images were shared, one being a bright blue coat and zesty orange combo, fueling our suspicions that Abloh is radically going to shake the tables.

Virgil also teased with an image on his personal Instagram account; an all-white shirt, jersey and jacket and accessories combination.

In an interview Abloh said this about the capsule collection:

“The very first thing I made here was a T-shirt,” he told the newspaper. “What’s the perfect weight? Why are fashion T-shirts usually so tiny? For me, there’s a subtlety in focusing on the right shape of T-shirt and pant.”

Abloh is the founder of high-end streetwear brand OFF- WHITE so there is no doubt that the sports luxe aesthetic will echoe through the Louis Vuitton collection.

“I’m trying to make something luxurious approachable,”

Off-white just debuted their SS19 collection on the runway just a day ahead of the inaugural LV show.
