The first edition of the Elle International Fashion and Luxury Management Program in partnership with MIT Sloan Executive Education and Universidad Complutense de Madrid has just come to an end. These prestigious institutions have partnered with Elle to create an academic environment where the next leaders of the fashion and luxury industries can further their career goals, and gain practical knowledge from the insight of key players of the industry, as well as from exclusive fashion experiences.
The program welcomed participants from all over the world amounting to 18 different nationalities, and at least one person from each continent, providing an opportunity to gain knowledge from different perspectives and different markets, as well as unique networking opportunities. Participants belonged to various industries and had a wide range of positions, which made all of their contributions rich in diversity, and set the stage for incredible discussion of the luxury and fashion industries.
Available in three different formats, the program adapts to the needs and schedules of participants. The Global format where participants attend all four modules on-site with a cost of 25.000 Euros; the Hybrid formats where participants can complete the program partly online and partly in person by attending either the US modules, or the modules in Europe with a cost of 20.000 Euros; and finally, the Online modality, where participants have access to all video lectures and a tutor to track their progress in the Campus Online with a cost of 16.000 Euros. In between modules, participants complete assignments under the guidance of the program tutor, and are expected to prepare case-studies, readings and assignments before the start of classes, making it a flexible but continuous program. Upon successful completion of the program, participants receive a certificate issued by MIT Sloan Executive Education in collaboration with Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
They are committed to providing their participants with well-rounded knowledge of the industry and the frameworks necessary to confront the challenges in the Fashion and Luxury business. The program is divided into four different modules targeting four different sectors of the Fashion industry, in addition to six focus areas. Taught by a very professional and experienced faculty, the focus areas of the program are Leadership, Innovation, Strategy, Control, Marketing and Finance. The modules take place in four different cities all known for specializations in different areas of Fashion.
The first stop of the program is Madrid, known for revolutionizing the Fast Fashion and distribution model. During this module participants enjoyed discussions with guest speakers that included Rosa Tous, the corporate Vice Chairwoman of Tous; Ignacio Sierra, the Corporate Director of Grupo Cortefiel; Carla Vazquez, Communication Director of Delpozo; Juan Suarez, the Creative Director of Aristocrazy; Gonzalo Cebrian, CEO of Le Guide Noir; Benedetta Poletti, Editor-in-Chief of Elle Spain; Pilar Riaño, Director of Modaes; Pepa Bueno, the Executive Director of Asociación Creadores de Moda de España (ACME); Designers Helena Rohner and Carmen March; Adolfo Fernandez, Business Development Manager of Spain and Portugal in Google. In addition, participants attended exclusive ELLE fashion experiences including a lecture in Pons, a consultancy firm specialized in trademarks and patent law; a tour of Globally, a communications agency in charge of select luxury and fashion brands; visits to the Madrid Flagship Stores of exclusive brands such as of Delpozo and Loewe.
Exploring the world of the Fashion and Luxury industries would not be complete without a stop in Paris, where the program delves into Haute Couture and Luxury. During this module, our participants were able to take part in exclusive fashion experiences such as a tour and cocktail in the Moet Hennessy Innovation Lab, and a lecture on the Great Collectors of Jewels in L’Ecole Van Cleef & Arpels in Paris. They also took part in exclusive conferences with guest speakers including designer Christian Louboutin; Michael Burke, CEO of Louis Vuitton; Sidney Toledano, CEO of LVMH Fashion Group; Christian Courtin-Clarins, CEO of Clarins; Jean-Marc Mansvelt, CEO of Chaumet; fashion designer Roland Mouret; and Alexandra Van Houtte, CEO and founder of Tagwalk. Additionally, our participants enjoyed a workshop with Korn Ferry about what it means to work in the luxury and fashion industry.
The next stop is New York, a world class leader in premium fashion brands and marketing. In New York, participants enjoyed sessions by key industry experts such as Emma Rosenblum, Executive Editor – ELLE USA; Steve Shiffman, CEO of Calvin Klein; Anna Bakst, CEO & Brand President, Kate Spade New York; Gabriela Hearst, Fashion Designer; Diane von Furstenburg, Fashion Designer; and Andrew Rosen, CEO of Theory. Participants took part in exclusive experiences that included a visit to Diane von Furstenburg and Theory’s studios in the Meatpacking district, as well as visit to Hearst Tower and a tour of the ELLE US Editorial offices.
The final module takes place at MIT, the epicenter of technology and innovation. During the MIT module, MIT Sloan’s internationally renowned faculty present core topics including strategy and innovation, marketing, financial decision making, and operational effectiveness in a digital world. An MIT Media Lab panel discussed Emerging technology in Fashion. Additionally, Fabrice Paget, Founder of The Luxury Brand Agency; Karen Korellis Reuther, Creative Advisor and Brand Strategist; and Dabney Hailey, Found and Principal of Hailey Consulting Group delved into topics that included the Managing Timelessness in Luxury, Power of Color and Visual Thinking Strategies.
The next edition is set to kick-off on December 12, 2018 and run through May 24, 2019.
