In the age in which art and fashion intersect ever-so naturally, we always find ourselves struck by at the categorically beautiful execution of some of the industry’s major brand partnerships and Puma’s new collaboration with Sue Tsai is definitely one of these.
Bursting with artistic expression and pop culture flair, the capsule collection -featuring footwear, apparel and accessories- was designed with visually enticing imagery involving “…flowers gone wild, rising up to take the planet back from humanity”. Sue- an artist and designer based in New York City- developed a streetwear collection that related to her iconic aesthetic and that resonates with the sport giant’s ideal of pushing the boundary, both artistically and technically.
Following the modernized look of Puma’s classic Cali and Nova styles, Sue transformed these sneakers into powerful features of design that harbour an edgy yet playful fashion appeal which are two perquisites for a standout collaboration. The Cali 'Peonies Camo' S.TSAI has a bulkier design but features a juxtaposed aesthetic of deep camouflage print base and boldly hued hand-painted flowers.
In addition to the Cali design, Sue once again worked her magic on the Nova 'Cherry Bombs' S.TSAI which is one of Puma’s sleeker sneaker styles similar to that of a running shoe. The neutral toned base is the perfect canvas on which the carved spaces filled with tangerine and black stand out perfectly. A strong feature in this design includes hand-illustrated flowers, a creative play on negative and positive spaces and bi-coloured laces which ties the whole aesthetic together.
With the footwear making a massive impact already, Sue took the collection to the next level with the apparel portion, once again, featuring her phenomenal signature stamp of approval. Earmarked by the use of wild florals in a various areas on the actual garment, she introduces two pieces of outerwear called the PUMA x SUE TSAI XTG Track Top and thePUMA x SUE TSAI Hoodie. The track top is covered in a peony print and is inspired by Puma’s original from 1994 and the hoodie features branded bands and a print at the back. Both outerwear options can be paired with the PUMA x SUE TSAI Tights or the PUMA x SUE TSAI Tee which are pieces formulated under the collaboration’s inception as well.
The PUMA X SUE TSAI collaboration will be available on 16 March 2019 at PUMA SELECT, X-Trend, Superbalist and Madaiza from 16 March 2019.
