People Are Not Pleased with Rachel Dolezal Again & Here's Why

The infamous "transrational" media personality has opened a "black hair" salon.

Rachel Dolezal rose to the media spotlight in 2015 when she came out to say that she is a white woman and had been posing as a black activist part of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) for years.

Naturally, the also stylist whose work caters largely to black customers received major backlash because her "identity" was effectively blackface and in America's tense political climate, it would not be tolerated. She even wrote a book and went on world tour, essentially defending her identity as a "transracial" woman. To add to the never-ending fire, she now runs a home-based hair salon which specializes in hairstyles for people of colour.

Whether the above is acceptable or not, since some may argue that she isn't harming anyone,  it's so important to highlight why it is problematic to appropriate black culture, for aesthetic reasons - it is erasure of the baggage, historical trauma and violence that is laiden in being black.
