Madame Clicquot was a truly remarkable and progressive woman of her time in 18th century France. She was widowed at just 27, in an era when women were excluded from the business world, she dared to assume the head of the company. She was one of the first to envisage the international success Champagne would have, exporting her products to far-flung markets. Driven and creative, she was always in search of new approaches to challenge the status quo. Her character might be summarised in two words: audacious and intelligent.
In South Africa, the Veuve Clicquot ELLE Boss Award is a platform to recognise and celebrate visionary women such as Madame Clicquot who are not afraid to take risks and prosper in even the most challenging circumstances. The Veuve Clicquot ELLE Boss Award champions the success of South African businesswomen who share the same inspirational qualities as Madame Clicquot: an enterprising spirit, creativity and determination.
Honouring such spirited courage, the 2018 Veuve Clicquot ELLE Boss Award is open for nominations. This Women’s Month, think of someone – it could even be you – who deserves to be recognised in the world of business.
ELLE and Veuve Clicquot want to challenge the status quo by recognising, rewarding and giving women the acknowledgement, they deserve. This is a unique opportunity for South African women in business, not only to stand a chance to compete for the grand prize but to be exposed to a network of equally powerful women both locally and around the world.
The Veuve Clicquot ELLE Boss winner will receive:
- Extensive press coverage from the awards evening;
- A feature in ELLE South Africa (magazine and digital platforms); and
- A visit to the prestigious Veuve Clicquot Maison in 2019 hosted by Veuve Clicquot in Reims, France, inclusive of flights, accommodation and a daily allowance to network with international businesswomen from around the world
