We highlight all the hair and makeup inspo you need for the upcoming season: 90’s up do’s; free curls and nude and berry tones -yes please!
The nominees at the 90th annual Oscar ceremony were not the only ones being celebrated last night – a flashback to 90’s inspired hair and makeup were clearly being celebrated too - here are the top ELLE approved beauty and hair look hot off the red carpet.
Blue eyeshades made a bold appearance at the Oscars, with actress Lupita Nyong’o rocking a blue smoky eye like it was 1999 – bold and bright, this 90’s comeback is best paired with a low-key makeup look - we love how Lupita paired hers with a nude lip and a ‘naked’ foundation finish. Less is definitely more when attempting this trend.
Ladies of the screens, Danai Gurira; Gal Gadot and St Vincent’s bold lipstick shades, gave a 90’s inspired nod towards the infamous berry lipstick trend previously rocked by screen sirens of (way) past Oscar evenings (think Nicole Kidman and Drew Barrymore ala 1997) Sporting the latest in berry tones like magenta, cherry and, well berry, shows these hues are making a beautiful comeback and are sure to get heads turning and make you stand out in a room.
A classic Hollywood look that has stood the test of time has now paved the way for “The new 90’s “hot bob” sirens” worn by actress, Margot Robbie, and director, Greta Gerwig. Sporting a fresh take on the hottest trend of the 90’s - a classic bob, and the classic finger wave style of the 20’s, these ladies pulled off a timeless style with a modern twist effortlessly with their flat-iron wave lobs.
And Lupita! My goodness, the elaborate up-do with gold accents was everything.
90’s hair accessories and classic up-do’s
Throwback hair accessories of the 90’s have rocked many a recent ramp, so we are not surprised, this casual trend filtered its way into the hands of the Hollywood elite, and straight into their hair. Our favourite ode to the 90’s hair and makeup looks of the night have to be Andra Day’s fancy floral accessories scattered amongst her hair and Zendaya’s very classy take on the 90’s up-do – perfectly finished with their choice of deep burgundy and brown smoky eyes.
