Fashion weeks are always a good time for us to anticipate the new trends to look forward to for the season. Here are ten beauty trends on our radar from London Fashion Week SS16:
- BLUE EYE-LINER
The 'stuck on blue' eyeshadow that we saw on the runway last year at Fendi's Spring/Summer 2015 show, sure made a lasting impression. We're still seeing cobalt blue making its rounds on this year’s catwalks. Here, Jonathan Saunders matched blue eyeliner with his colour-blocking designs.
- STRAW BOATERS
Hats are definitely an accessory we need this summer, whether to cover-up a bad hair day, protect from UV rays or even to make a fashion statement. We saw the oversize felt hat styled in multiple ways last year, this season, Mother of Pearl introduced straw boaters, perfect for a day on the beach or paired with stripes for a nautical theme.
- DECORATED CHOKERS
Markus Lupfer's SS16 show demonstrated how to wear a choker with style, his collection brought back our lust for this teenage must-have accessory. Decorated with beaded flowers, Lupfer matched the choker with bomber jackets, French lace and sheer.
- EXAGGERATED EYELASHES
We all love our eyelashes elongated and side-swept to widen and brighten our eyes. Natural-looking fake eyelashes were a staple beauty theme at LFW, emphasising a more dramatic look with minimal makeup and swept back hair, à la Daks.
- OXBLOOD LOVE
Dark lip colours are not necessarily reserved for the winter days only. Seen on the runways of Burberry Prorsum yesterday was a sultry, oxblood shade prepped by international makeup artist Wendy Rowe.
- FEATHERED BROWS
The feathered brow is an in-between of bold brows and natural brows. Not too bold to require dark eyeliner, this brow look requires light feathery strokes in different directions, as seen at Christopher Kane.
- BABY BANGS
Short bangs swept to the side with a low ponytail was a striking do this year. Christopher Kane paired his with sunnies and cable ties that doubled as chokers.
- RUBY RED
Topshop's SS16 show saw models wearing statement earrings, perfectly arched brows and ruby red lips, which stood out amongst the earthy shades of makeup that reigned. The red lip never goes out of fashion.
- FRESH FACE FORWARD
Also a comeback kid this season is the fresh face look. Hydrated skin, perfectly arched brows, minimal makeup and clean, swept back hair made a lasting impression as seen at J. W. Anderson's show.
- BRAID HAIR
Giles sent his models down the runway with French braids parted in two, transforming the braid into pigtails. This trend is one of our favourites for summer.
