Women are doing it for themselves. Last week Time Magazine released its annual 100 Most Influential People list and it includes 40 women (one fewer than last year’s record-breaking 41).
The esteemed list has five categories: Pioneers, Leaders, Artists, Titans and Icons. Last year’s cover went to Beyoncé while this year it’s Kim Kardashian’s hubby, Kanye West, who is this year’s top Titan.
Four superwomen feature in the top 10: Mellody Hobson (3rd) Chairman on the Board of Directors for DreamWorks Animation, Elizabeth Holmes (5th), founder and CEO of Theranos, a health technology and medical laboratory services company, Susan Wojcicki (8th) CEO of YouTube and Chanda Kochhar (9th) the managing director of ICICI Bank.
In at number 13 is Kim K herself, dubbed ‘the first lady of #fame’ and acknowledged for her massive following. For the first time, 25-year-old Emma Watson makes it to the list, coming in at number 26 for her efforts in the gender equality campaign HeForShe. Actress Reese Witherspoon lands number 29.
Other famous faces include Taylor Swift, Hillary Clinton, Diane von Furstenberg, teen activist Malala Yousafzai and ballerina Misty Copeland.
