ELLE Edit: Quick SS 2018 Makeup Looks

Let’s face it. The over-done Instagram makeup we see on our timelines is way too time-consuming.

Most of us are simply too busy (or sometimes too tired) to invest a whole hour on a flawless facebeat. Thankfully, Spring 2018 brings easy, flexible solutions and we are taking notes.

We spotted quick makeup looks which put emphasis on one feature, especially lips! Here are some of our favourite quick yet impactful looks.

1. No Foundation

The foundation to flawless makeup is good skin. The first ELLE beauty tip is to invest in good skincare in order for your makeup to have a smooth foundation. When your skin is healthier, you wont need to waste as much time building on thick foundation. Spring/Summer 2018 makeup is all about healthy and hydrated skin. So, skip foundation and opt for just a touch of concealer instead of a full face. The new season is all about clean, understated, glowing, bare skin, with the lightest hint of liquid highlight and natural mascara.

2. Spidery Mascara

This is the lash look that kicked off Spring 2018. No need to use up more time starting over if you’ve messed up your mascara. Clumpy mascara is so Spring 2018. Do it deliberately, on both on bottom and top lashes and black liner on your waterline for maximum impact.

 3. A Splash of Colour

Try a soft wash of colour over the eyes. The aim is to play with colour. This with a nude lip is all you need.

4. Strobe

There was barely any contouring, but strobing is key for S/S 18. The aim is to look fresh. So go for dewy strobing on the forehead, cheekbones, and down the bridge of the nose. A quick trick – as per the looks at Saint Laurent and Altuzarra, is to use a lot of light reflective creams to give a strobed effect and a maximum glow.

5. Extreme Cat Eyes

Oh how we love a winged liner. Thick yet sharp winged liquid eyeliner is back with a vengeance, so practice perfecting a steady hand. Last season, the wing actually was quite small. It’s now back to the prominent cat eye against natural-looking skin. A winged eye makes you look like you’ve made an effort. Great for any time, day or night, especially when you are on the go.

6.  Glitter Makeup

Less time consuming doesn’t have to mean subtle. It’s about choosing one thing and making that the feature. Glitter is trending, not only in those lust-have YSL glitter boots and Kira Kira, a glitter eye is fun and perfect for the party season ahead. At Topshop Unique, glitter was smudged to achieve a grungy effect, while the rest of the face was fairly neutral.

7. Line the Waterline

Wearing dark eyeliner makes eyes look extra seductive. It’s like an instant smokey effect without all the blending eyeshadow needs. Look at the Carolina Herrera show for kohl liner inspo. Theirs was a ‘90s inspired eye, with black kohl rimming the whole eye, including the water line. This look is quick and easy to achieve – even if you’re not a pro.

 8. Red Lips

We all know how a red lip can instantly make a statement. We all have our favourite shade of red, depending on our skin tone and preference. The overwhelming red lip trend of the season is warm reds. As with most looks for the season, the rest of the makeup is understated and illuminated.

9. Soft Inner Corner Highlight

Want to look more awake, and like you made more of an effort than you actually did? Add a touch of highlighter or shimmery light eyeshadow in the inner corner of the eye. It’s a quick and easy ways to make the eyes look bigger, and also amp up the glamour of a natural makeup look.

10. Vertical Line on the Bottom Lip

So all the easy makeup looks above are totally wearable, right? The last quick makeup tip is a bit more avant- garde. Why not? Try a vertical strip down the center of the lip. We love this look especially on a matte lipstick.
