Eyecreams

In our August issue, the ELLE team tried out a few eye creams – see their feedback on p128. After reading their reviews our copy editor Erla bewailed the fact that she cannot find an eye cream that absorbs well enough and fast enough so that it doesn’t make her make-up smudge before her second cup of coffee, I sent her home with three to try. Below is her feedback…

Almay Eyewise Intense Hydration

The text on the box promised me fewer fine lines, fewer dark circles and less puffiness. I’m afraid I can’t attest to that as we’ve just been through a hectic deadline and any eye cream would have been sorely tested. But what I really wanted anyway was less smudged mascara. Of the three products I tried, this cream produced the best results and I could safely go to the mirror at 10am without having to clean up under my eyes. I also like that it comes in a (recyclable) glass bottle with a pump that dispenses a blob that is big enough to do both eyes at a time.

Dermactin-TS Upper Eyelid Revitalizing Cream

Although I technically did not have a problem with smudged mascara on my upper eyelids, the fact that this product even exists tickled my curiosity. In view of the above-mentioned deadline I also needed all the help I could get. I must admit that I haven’t used it every evening. One of the reasons for this is the fact that it comes in a tube. This is my least favourite packaging as always squeeze out too much and then don’t know what to do with the remaining cream. I will continue to use the cream, though, so let’s see what happens.

Olay Age Defying Series Eye Gel

The budget queen in me had high hopes for this gel. It contains cucumber and hazel extracts and is said to do what eye creams do, which is take care of dark circles and puffiness. I liked the fresh feeling of the gel but it is not entirely un-sticky at first. Although the stickiness disappears as the gel is absorbed, it did not leave me with unsmudged mascara.

I’m afraid I cannot yet comment on any of these products’ ability to reduce puffiness, etcetera as I have been alternating them in the mornings in my quest for unsmudged mascara.

Ashika Jugmohan on 9/7/2012: I use Dermactin-TS for serve dark circles for a couple weeks now. I must say the puffiness is gone, and no problems with applying my makeup and I never touch up! With regard to the dark circle I think the mositure from this cream seems to be helping but I would give it a month before I decide if I will buy this cream again. I also used the Olay regenerist eye cream, but it didnt seem to get rid of my puffiness the way Dermactin-TS does. Dermactin-TS also aborbs easily leaving the eye area feeling firmer.
