Fashion editor Tarryn Oppel worked the blazer as a winner for our September issue ‘Simply The Best’ Style For Less shoot on page 78. Yes, this shoot is all about the versatility of a blazer worn in six different ways. Take a behind-the-scenes look at our shoot here!

Behind-the-Scenes

How long did it take you to style this one?

All in a day’s work!

Biggest challenge?

Finding a model! It was just one of those months where models weren’t available. No-one was in town and approval could only be given the day before the shoot at 3pm, so no fitting took place and this can be very stressful, but Anja from Boss was perfect for it, so all worked out in the end.

Favourite shot and why?

The opening shot is one of my favourites. Not only because it showcases one of my favourite trends, but because the stillness represented the trend so well and I absolutely loved the hair.

What do you want the ELLE reader to take away from this shoot?

I’m all for making classic pieces work for everyday outfits. That’s exactly what the shoot stands for – yes, we go from season to season and trends change, but classics remain and there are ways to incorporate them into all things fresh and new without looking outdated.

Any funny moments?

I always think it’s funny when photographer Ulrich decides to lounge on the floor to take his pictures. He really works his angles to get the perfect shot.

Apart from the blazer from Trenery at Woolworths, are there any other suggestions for great blazer purchases?

A blazer is definitely an investment piece and shouldn’t be skimped on. Blazers are everywhere, but the fit isn’t always right and it’s just a matter of trying all of them on to see what works best for you. However, some of the best blazers I’ve spotted come from Tiger of Sweden and Zara. These can be pricey, but remember it’s a seasonless investment piece.

What was the brief for hair and make-up?

You know how much I love a fresh glowing face and that’s exactly what I got. Because each look and trend was very different to the next (except the blazer of course), I wanted the hairstyles to represent each change and with all the hair changes, the make-up stayed the same, with a hint of a lip colour here and there.

What do you love about this shoot?

I love how simple it is, with such a clear message, and that there’s something for everyone.

Anything else we need to know about  shoot day?

It was actually my first time shooting with Ulrich, hairstylist Mary Gouveia and make-up artist Shahnaz, and we worked so well together that it only took 3½ hours, which is not long at all.

Kerry on 9/6/2012: I love this! It appeals to the simple side of me, I love dressing up and experimenting but on a day where nothing else works or I just want to be comfy, a blazer is always my go-to!
