Judges

South Africa’s future designers are hard at work on their entries for the ELLE Rising Star Design Award in association with Mr Price. This competition will provide its winner with a platform to launch his or her own label with mentorship from experts in fashion, retail, business and marketing.

For the first time ever, we are also offering one ELLE reader the opportunity to serve on the ELLE Rising Star Design Award panel of judges, deciding who should win this prestigious award.

The reader judge will also be a guest at the ELLE Rising Star Design Award event in September, a red-carpet event where the winner of the 2012 ELLE Rising Star Design Award will be announced.

So how do you enter?

• Write a brief motivation (150 words) convincing us that have the fashion knowledge and style sensibility that qualify you to be a judge.

• Please ensure that your name, surname, contact number and residential address appear on each page of your submission.

Entries must be in a Word document, and emailed to Jennamc@ellemag.co.za, with ELLE Reader Judge Competition in the subject line.

Competition closes: 1 August

Lawrence Durbe on 6/1/2012: Yay! Finally, I'm on it.
rebecca blair on 6/1/2012: I am an ordinary girl, with a talent for fashion. I have an artistic flair… I am a graphic designer; photographer and I make handbags when I find a moment to do the things I love. Every cent I earn goes towards travelling, so I have been lucky enough to travel to a number of places, where I collect clothing and find the most incredible sales! I have seen the intense love of fashion and the different styles, especially Europe. I cannot say I know every fashion term, the latest trend, and have an updated fashion blog, but I know when someone looks insanely gorgeous, and their personality and confidence shines through their appearance. I appreciate EFFORT. Every day is a fresh opportunity to express your personality through clothing. You do not need the most expensive collection… It’s how well you put together what you have and being yourself at the same time.
Vicky Botha on 6/22/2012: I am a qualified fashion Designer with a Bachelors in Editorial Design. After studying I have been in the fashion Merchandising industry dealing with Top chain stores such as Mr Price Group, Edcon & Branded wear such as Bad Girl, Bad Boy, Gotcha, Disney, Guess. Being exposed to fashion trends daily, and analyzing Sales, I feel I have the knowledge to be able to help select the deserving winner. My passing for styling & image consulting will give me the upper hand, as it needs to be idealistic fashion but still appropriate to the SA market. Which the Elle Magazine loves!
