Three decades later, nothing still get between her and her Calvins
While the return of designer denim has been a long time coming, Raf Simon’s brand new line at helm of Calvin Klein nods a chinky wink to name brand jeans. Titled CALVIN KLEIN JEANS EST. 1978, the debut collection follows the designer’s creative path at the American house: mixing and chopping moments from the past in a graphic recomposition of a new type of American fashion.
Using silhouettes found at any retail—the trucker hat or the white tee—the colourful assortment shows all-over prints featuring Brooke Shields, who famously propelled CK Jeans into the limelight in the 1980s. Other Americana motifs—emblems deconstructed from the flag, a soaring bold eagle—appear on separates that range from printed denim, tees, hoodies, and more. Is this Simons’ uniform for a new America? Or a harkening to a lost memory? Perhaps both.
CALVIN KLEIN JEANS EST. 1978 will be available starting Friday, July 13, 2018.
