This autumn/winter Pringle of Scotland is again embracing the heritage of the brand, taking its cue from the label’s trademark looks with an extravagant, elegant collection which pays extra attention to detail. The clothes have sleek lines and warm, riotous colours countered with blacks and charcoals. Of course, no winter collection – or wardrobe – would be complete without luxurious knitwear, which, let’s face it, Pringle of Scotland is famous for.

We chatted to ladieswear brand manager Bonny Wagner-Read and Elza Smit and Marc Vogelzang of the label’s marketing team.

What was the inspiration for this year’s autumn/winter range?

There were three influences – the timeless glamour of the 1950s, 200 years of luxury innovation at Pringle of Scotland and enduring fashion items that are often passed on from generation to generation.

Describe the collection in a sentence?

It’s about eternal sleek style updated with vintage-inspired pieces such as poodle skirts and sweaters.

And this season’s fabrics?

We used cashmere knits, wool suiting, lamb’s wool for the twin sets, merino wool for the snoods and jersey knits. The combination of different textures is a departure for us and will set this collection apart.

And the colours?

Hunter green, deep navy blue, our signature argyle in navy and blue, and our classic black and snow houndstooth.

Who did you have in mind when creating the collection?

A woman who appreciates the quality, glamour and luxury that come with the Pringle name. At the same time, the fashion pieces will appeal to a younger, more fashion conscious buyer.

What was the big idea for the campaign shoot?

We wanted to show the clothes in a setting that would play on the brand’s rich and luxurious heritage. We found the perfect setting in Jo’burg’s CBD. The Rand Club has been around since October 1887 and may as well have been set in the Scottish Highlands. The prestige of the club and its rich background make it perfect for our brand. If you look closely, you will pick up references to Queen Elizabeth II in some of the shots and as you know, Pringle of Scotland carries the royal warrant, which is something we wanted to incorporate in our lookbook, but in a subtle way.
