For our September 2015 issue, the ELLE team travelled to Paris for a week to produce a beauty shoot, a fashion editorial and a cover starring Kristina Bazan. One of the highlights of the trip was our accommodation, a beautiful Parisian apartment called the Canal St. Martin on 10eme ardt, where we shared cheese and wine, had a model casting, cooked, danced and slept so soundly despite the hustle and bustle of the Parisian youth during a music festival.

The location?

The apartment is situated in a very upbeat, cool area with views directly onto the tree-lined Canal St. Martin. Here is where you will find easy access to the metro, supermarkets, patisseries (the Boulangerie is a must for that early morning croissant), the trendy northern Marais and Place de la République. A 2-minute walk away is also an amazing must-try bao burger (the buns are made from rice flour) spot called Siseng, with a great ambience and vibe. Conveniently located just below the apartment is the most amazing cheese and wine shop, with incredible service and fresh baguettes – you’ll want to try everything!

The architecture?

The building is typically Parisian, with large windows that open directly onto a view of the canal and beautiful iron balconies. The apartment is filled with natural light, is super spacious, and open-plan in layout.

The décor?

Bohemian-chic with antique herringbone parquet flooring throughout, white walls, embossed ceilings and decorative marble finishes (an Instagram dream). The kitchen is entertainment heaven with custom built cabinets, making it extremely homely in contrast to the elegant shell, with countless surface areas complete with an 8-seater dining table perfect for a French cuisine spread. The three bedrooms are inviting and cosy with windows in each and an en suite in the main bedroom. The décor is all cohesive in colour and simple, including a very comfortable leather couch (we can confirm this after spending hours on it just chatting over a few glasses of wine).

My highlights of the apartment were…..

The natural light, simply because the sun didn’t really set before 9:30pm, so this was a huge treat as we could relax after a long day of work and bask in the sunlight until heading out for dinner. The kitchen was also such a highlight that even though we were in the coolest area, filled with eating spots, we decided to opt for grocery shopping and made a delicious spread of eats that we enjoyed indoors instead. Above all else, the greatest part about the apartment is the easy access and prime location for sure.
