Who is on our radar lately? Scottish singer-songwriter Emeli Sandé! She has been the talk of London town and the global music industry since winning in two of the biggest categories at the BRIT Awards last week. She won Best British Female Solo Artist and Best British album for her edgy pop début ‘Our Version Of Events’, which was the most popular album of 2012 in the UK, selling 1.4 million copies.
She also provided the entertainment at Elton John’s Oscars after party, where the host was overheard saying she was the next big thing.
Despite the recent buzz, the 26-year-old is no stranger to the music industry. In 2009 Simon Cowell called her ‘his favourite songwriter at the minute’ after she featured and co-wrote a hit track ‘Diamond Rings’ for rapper Chipmunk. She has also written for stars like Rihanna and Cheryl Cole, and in 2012 she was named the Critics Choice at the BRITs.
What’s more, Emeli (full name Adele Emeli Sandé Gouraguine), has an African heritage. She was born in England to a Zambian father and English mother.
We’ll be keeping our eyes on Emeli because her star is definitely rising!
