Ombré is French for a gradual colour change from light to dark or vice versa, almost like a dip-dye effect. The ombré trend is one of our favourites of the moment and is such a fresh look for Spring/Summer. We recommend using neon brights or even clashing hues such as orange and pink but you can also play it safe with colours of the same family.
Get the look in a few easy steps!
You will need:
– A bright lipstick such as M.A.C Candy Yum Yum
– A darker lip pencil such as Black Up 2 in 1 Lip pencil in JUM10
– A lip brush such as Bobbi Brown Retractable Lip Brush
– Concealer or foundation to even out and perfect your final result
Using your finger tips or a sponge, conceal the lip area to create a blank canvas for your work of art.
Liberally apply your first colour, usually the colour that will be on the inside of the lip. Choosing a matte or at least opaque colour as coverage will dictate the intensity of the look. Use a lip brush for a more precise application and pay attention to the corners and the cupid’s bow!
Use the sharpened darker pencil to line and fill the outer corners of the lips. How much lip you cover will be proportional to how full your lips are. Try and stay symmetrical so both corners match!
The most important step now: Do not over-blend or the ombré effect will be lost! Use the lip brush and blend the two tones making sure the darker colour stays in the corners. The aim is to soften the line between the shades.
Ombré lips can be many variations of the above – imagination is key!
Top tip: ‘Get your lip shape and contour absolutely perfect by using a small angle brush such as the M.A.C #266 with concealer to clean up the edges’ – Kelly Paitaki, make-up artist.
