Earlier this year, athletic apparel brand Nike made headlines when it announced that it would be creating sports hijabs for Muslim female athletes. And now, the aptly named Nike Hijab Pro, is finally here!
To celebrate, the brand asked successful Muslim athletes to front the campaign and teamed up with U.S. Olympic fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad, Emrati figure skater Zahra Lari and German boxer Zeina Nassar.
In a message of inclusiveness, Nike took to Instagram to post the product’s campaign video alongside the caption “sport is for everyone.”
Nike is not the first brand to publicly recognise the need for diverse and inclusive products, in fact, toy manufacturer Mattel also recently released its first hijab wearing Barbie. The Barbie was modelled after U.S fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad and honoured her for being an inspiration to countless girls globally.
This is undoubtedly a step in the right direction for diversity and inclusiveness, we just hope other brands follow suit.
The sport hijab will be available to purchase on Nike’s websiteas of December 7th.
