First we shared our New York Fashion Week highlights from the Victoria Beckham collection here and then we cheered for our very own David Tlale here, and it now seems that we just can’t get enough of the autumn collections so we have to share more!
ELLE fashion editors Asanda Sizani and Tarryn Oppel take us through their New York Fashion Week 2013 highlights here:
Marc by Marc Jacobs
‘Marc by Marc Jacobs is known to be usually upbeat and sporty, but this time his woman is all grown up. The designer looked to the ’70s and brought back Studio 54 hair and rich, jewel-toned geometrics, sophisticated dresses, polo-necks, and working-girl trousers. His midi-trousers and leaf-print coats are my favourite key pieces.
His models included It-girl Cara Delevingne, and this line is more accessible, wearable and playful.’
‘Tory’s collection was rich and refined with the inspiration being Gustav Klimt portraits, art nouveau and René Lalique, and her focus being on 24-hour dressing. This was an exquisite collection with stunning embellishments and workmanship. Ladylike and romantic with many statement pieces that work from day to night. From jacquard, to sparkle, firefly motifs, beading, studs and even metallic beetles – it was a masterpiece!’
‘The DKNY show gave me goose bumps! The collection was summed up with the following words: ‘everything old is new again’. Donna Karan gave a serious nod to ’90s grunge and represented the city of New York with beanies, basketball jackets, ruffled socks paired with flat boots and oversized bombers. I loved the introduction of a few red items and not to mention the all-important leopard print – a true reflection of the decade most of us love to love (including me). Everything was so streamlined and made modern, which I could not fault.’
