In the August issue of ELLE the beautiful Alyssa Cole from Boss Models stars in our ‘How to wear… Something Old’ shoot (page 102). After seeing her in front of the camera, we naturally wanted to know more about her and her life as a model. So here’s Alyssa, behind the scenes.

How To WearWhat do you do when you have free time?
I love my quiet time. Movies, the beach, my textbooks and I’m a happy girl!

What’s your favourite lunch spot?
I’m new in Cape Town, and am still exploring this beautiful city. I do love the Waterfront spots and often go there.

And for drinks after a shoot?
Asoka on Kloof Street. The vibe is so chilled.

What did you like about shooting with ELLE?
The combinations nobody would have expected to work. The styling by Asanda Sizani is so inspiring and exciting. I was surprised each time I dressed – each look was rocking!

Describe your style?
I’m fond of mixing. I like what catches my eye. Sometimes it’s what looks good on me and sometimes I pair designer and high street. But I’m a jeans and blazers girl, and I melt for vintage!

Best part of your job?
Working with and meeting fabulous people.

Key item for winter?
It’s the same every year – trench coats!

I won’t be caught without…
My BlackBerry!

On my winter wish list is…
A getaway to an exotic place – and I got my wish!

What is the biggest challenge of working in this industry?
I have yet to find out.

Has being a model changed or influenced your personal style?
Definitely! I have learnt a lot about make-up and clothes. On shoots, it’s about styling and combining items. Being exposed to high fashion opens your mind to fashion.

What’s on your iPod?
Classical music and a lot of Drake.

What are you currently reading?
The Power of a Praying Woman by Stormie Omartian.

Beauty secret?
I don’t think I have one, although my mom always taught me to put on sunscreen every day. I do think that is key.

Three things we don’t know about you?
I was born and raised in Pietermaritzburg, I am currently finishing my degree in communications and management, and I am a hopeless animal lover.

Heels or flats?
Flats! It’s Cape Town and life is much slower and more relaxed, but I do love killer heels and I most definitely bring them out for a good night out.

Sling bag or shopper?
Sling bags.

What trend are you working this season?
My coral MAC lipglass (love, love, love) brings warmth to winter!
