LIFE BEFORE ELLE

Before ELLE I worked as a Communications Assistant, taught English online for a short while and worked as a freelance features writer for a digital menswear magazine. My ultimate dream was to get into fashion PR/ writing, and when I was presented with this opportunity, I knew I had got everything I’ve always wanted and more.

HOW DID YOU GO ABOUT APPLYING FOR THE INTERNSHIP?

I saw an ad on the ELLE Facebook page and I spent the entire evening updating my CV and reading through every article on the ELLE website. The next morning, I applied and went for an interview. Two days later, I was told that I’d got the job.

WHY THIS CAREER CHOICE?

After I finished my degree in 2012, my love and passion for fashion PR/ writing grew stronger by the day. I decided to look for platforms where I could improve my writing skills and learn more about fashion, and so when I landed this opportunity, I was beyond happy.

WHAT WAS DAY 1 LIKE?

Day 1 was a little hectic but thankfully everyone in the office is really friendly and always willing to assist.

HIGHLIGHTS OF BEING AT ELLE SO FAR?

  1. Learning new skills every day.
  2. Writing interesting news pieces for online and actually seeing them published on the ELLE website (with my name on them – highly rewarding!).
  3. Getting to watch a live indoor photo shoot.
  4. And I make casual visits to the ELLE Fashion Cupboard and drool over designer shoes and clothes.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR AVERAGE DAY

An average day does not exist at ELLE. Each day brings new challenges and interesting tasks. When I get to work in the morning, I check my emails, research news, picture edit, upload content onto the website and tweet.

 FASHION CUPBOARD CRUSH?

I’d love to own a pair of the pink and navy leopard print Reebok classics – a collaboration with Melody Ehsani. They are just so versatile.

ON YOUR WISH LIST?

I would love to get a wardrobe upgrade and an all-expenses paid trip to Europe!

CURRENTLY ON YOUR RADAR?

I’m obsessed with the gorgeous handcrafted neckpieces by local designer Pichulik, and I love the multicoloured hand-woven beanbags from Ashanti Designs: they are beyond comfortable and add a stylish and modern touch to any living room.

HIGHLIGHT OF THE LATEST ELLE ISSUE?

I really enjoyed the piece on fashion hoarders, in our features section. It made me feel okay about being a fashion hoarder and I have officially become a member of the fashion hoarder’s club. Haha.

ADVICE FOR FUTURE ONLINE INTERNS?

You have to have hunger, love and passion. If you lack any of those, you’re not going to survive. You need to be prepared to work hard, to learn and to take pride in your work.
