What’s in the name ‘Hazza’?
Hazza was derived from my name Hassan, which in Arabic means beautiful/handsome. Hazza is a brand that loves anything beautiful and arty.
What was your vision behind the ‘Hazza’ brand?
The vision is for the brand to become the number one label in ethical, contemporary, and urban wear in Africa and beyond. We don’t want our customers to only buy our stuff but to believe in every collection we produce, there is an inspiration and a message backed by it.
Take us through the concept behind your latest lookbook for the Ashasie3 SS16 collection.
Ashasie3, in our local dialect, means the beginning, and the collection pays homage to the struggles of a mother, and the strength and courage to enable her children to succeed. The collection unfolds bearing witness to a love so strong that it couldn’t possibly exist in reality, because a mother’s love is real. The beautiful and otherworldly nature of this tale is reflected in the prints, placed concept pockets that are strong and present. The deep forest green signifies her courage through it all, and also stands for balance, nature, and rebirth. Crowning her glory and nature of her love and desires for her children is the colour white. Filled with little details, like the hand-painted artwork, which are there to impress upon us the nature and status, and also the love mothers have for their children.
Who are the models you chose and why?
The models were Julee Djoulde Bocoum, Laurie Frimpong, Richmond Ekow Barnes, and Prince Sitsope. I wanted models who would bring out what we are trying to portray through our collection, and they did just that. Thanks must also be given to the photographer Quincy Koranteng who made all it visually possible.
