Elli-Nicole Sazeides is the last, but certainly not the least, finalist for the ELLE Rising Star Design Award in association with Mr Price.

When did you know that fashion design was what you wanted to do?  I always loved designing and I was 19 when I decided I wanted this to be my career. 

Tell us one thing we need to know about you as a designer? I have a passion for beautiful things.

How did you feel when you heard that you are one of the finalists? At first I couldn’t believe it but when it set in I was so excited and grateful.

What do you think differentiates your collection from the others’? I would hope that a level of sophistication and my use of interesting construction techniques come through.

When it comes to working, are you a night owl or an early bird? I’m definitely an early bird.

What do you listen to while you work? I enjoy Classic FM, Saturday Evening Bandstand on Cape Talk/702 and house.

Describe your favorite outfit? It changes with the latest additions to my wardrobe but at the moment it’s my vintage Chanel flats, silk bunny-print shirt, Zara jeans and the crystal earrings my partner gave me.

If design weren’t an option, what would you have done? I would become a psychologist.

What would winning this award mean for you? The business component included in the prize this year is an amazing addition to an already prestigious competition and winning would give me an amazing opportunity to develop myself as a voice in fashion and as a business owner.

How did you get into design? (self-taught/studied/interned?) I studied a BA in fashion.

First fashion memory? Dressing up in my mom’s evening gowns when I was six.

Who would you love to dress? Women of distinction, from Tavi Gevinson to Kate Middleton.
