Rumours about Marc Jacobs venturing into acting have been doing the rounds since 2011. Last year it was finally confirmed that he would definitely be making his on screen début alongside Alexander Skarsgard, Andrea Riseborough and Jason Bateman in a major independent film, titled Disconnect.

The film, a dramatic thriller about the tolls technology takes on human connections, wowed the festival circuits last year and will be released world-wide on 12 April. Marc plays Harvey, a ‘pimp for wayward, underage teens who are sucked into the seedy world of web-chat prostitution’. Sounds like a nasty piece of work, and not very well-dressed either.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the 49-year-old fashion designer discussed his foray into film, and of course his character’s wardrobe.

‘I had these really tacky suburban disco shirts with crucifixes embroidered on them, and the worst fitting dad jeans – I never wear jeans anyway – but these were just bad and acid washed with flannel zip jackets sewn to the side. And they put big silver rings on my fingers and earrings,’ said Marc. ‘So they just couldn’t stop laughing.’

Marc added that while he enjoyed starring in the film and being able to boast about it, it was unlikely he’d do it again. ‘It’s not ever been my dream to act or anything like that. It’s probably the last time I’ll ever do it,’ he said.

Disconnect will be released in the US on 12 April. We’ll let you know as soon as the local release date is confirmed; meanwhile, watch the trailer here
