Lexus SA Menswear Week’s Autumn/Winter 2017 shows were held at The Palms in Woodstock over two days from the 3rd to the 4th of February. We checked in with the designers behind some of the collections that caught our attention.
Designer Nicholas Coutts burst onto the scene in 2013 when he won the ELLE Rising Star Design Award. So we are especially proud to see how he continues to grow as a designer. For his latest collection at Lexus SA Menswear Week, Nicholas continued with his tradition of hand-woven textures. Inspired by the ’70s retro fashion dad’, the collection made use of what Nicholas describes as ‘juxtaposed fabric choices such as wool, velour, velvet tweed, herringbone and patchwork silk’. Drawing on his weaving skills, Nicholas also created his own fabric to add to a unique craft element to the pieces which he says were also inspired by his childhood growing up in an artistic family.
‘I collaborated with stylist Peter Georgiades, milliner Crystal Birch, and macrame artists: House of Grace,’ he adds.
The collection is available online and at AKJP store in Cape Town.
