From actress to entrepreneur, Jessica Alba is successfully building an empire. The Fantastic Four star, who founded her billion-dollar business The Honest Company four years ago, attended the Alibaba Global Conference on Women and Entrepreneurship in China last week to talk about her struggles and victories along the way.
This was the first-ever Global Conference on Women and Entrepreneurship, put on by Chinese e-commerce Alibaba Group, which brought together female entrepreneurs and leaders from around the world.
Alba’s idea for The Honest Company was sparked when she was pregnant with her first child and tested out a baby detergent that resulted in a rash. The 34-year-old actress then partnered with entrepreneur Brian Lee to produce safe, eco-friendly and affordable non-toxic baby products.
‘Most of my advisers in entertainment thought I should do a perfume or something like that,’ said Alba, who ignored her advisers and pursued the business venture.
‘The reason why I went into business was really to create a safer and healthier world for my children and for all children. The rise of toxic chemicals in our everyday life has contributed to so many serious and chronic illnesses. I felt someone really needed to make better products that are safe, non-toxic, healthy, beautifully designed, affordable and easy to get,’ said Alba.
