When it comes to artisan coffee, ELLE contributor Cindy Taylor of I Love Coffee is our go-to girl! There’s a brand new spot that has Capetonians buzzing (and it’s not just because of the caffeine), so here’s Cindy on Truth Coffee’s new HQ here:

‘Truth’s much-anticipated flagship store and headquarters in Buitenkant Street is set in a triple-storey Victorian building on Buitenkant Street. The difference with its roastery on Prestwich Street is like day and night. Whereas their Prestwich branch has a clean, light and minimalistic feel in keeping with the memorial in which it is housed, the new space exhibits an edgy Steampunk vibe, thanks to the creative powers of Haldane Martin. Think Sherlock Holmes (the Robert Downey Junior kind) meets H.G. Wells with a touch of Willy Wonka. At its heart is a mammoth cast-iron Probat roaster from the ’60s surrounded by a Tesla-esque cage adorned with vintage books, typewriters and coffee paraphernalia. Truth’s David Donde explains that this set-up allows his head roaster to be ‘politely unavailable’ while roasting without being out of sight. Extending from the roaster is a lavish bar with a Slayer Espresso Machine, a beautifully designed and revered coffee machine and one of only 200 in the world. At the front of the roastery sits several steel tables and chairs and most notably a 24-seater table made from timber salvaged from the building’s roof with swing-out chairs. Everything looks as if it has been there forever and the building as if it was born to house a roastery. As I left, I was therefore not in the least surprised to see that the narrow road behind it is called Coffee Lane.’
This is one coffee spot you simply have to see for yourself.
