We asked you via Facebook and Twitter to name the South Africans who inspire you. Then we asked them who inspires them. Here, as promised in our March issue, is the third of our 10-part online series, ‘Who Inspires the Inspiring’.

Marius Mueller-Westernhagen

Inspiration

German musician Marius Müller-Westernhagen is my mentor in the music industry. My favourite jewellery designer and friend, Ida Elsje, introduced me to him after she brought him and his wife to one of my live shows. After the show, he said to me, ‘You are really talented but I can tell you are not doing the music you want to do.’ He was right. He gave me the opportunity to go to Berlin to start working on new music for my debut album, Kamikaze Art that will be out in April. What inspires me most about him is that he is a giving person who always wants to share his blessings with others. His most inspiring words to me were: ‘If you remain modest and humble you will find satisfaction, happiness and peace in your work.’
