Sometimes there just isn’t time to pop by a salon to get your nails done, or even wait for them to dry before dashing off somewhere from the office or from home. The solution: stick your nail design on and go. Sarah Koopman took this new beauty sensation for a test drive:

Impress Nails are the latest offering from Broadway Nails – the second largest artificial nail brand in the world. The nails are literally ‘no mess, no fuss’ as they stick to your natural nails without the need for glue or tricky application. I had my manicure done at my desk by Ingrid and her team from Impress and was done in under five minutes! Each set comes with 24 different sized nails, so that you can find the best fit for each of your natural nails before sticking them on. The nails are plastic, unlike the sick-on strips that are also available on the market, but flexible enough to mould to your natural nail shape without cracking or bouncing back to their original shape and falling off. While this gives all your nails a perfect rounded shape, the plastic can feel a little uncomfortable. I was definitely aware of there being something on my nails for the duration of wearing them.

The nails weren’t an inconvenience, though and didn’t really get in the way, but typing on my cellphone with them on did take some getting used to. Cooking, washing dishes and washing my hands were all fine but brushing and washing my hair became a problem. Because the nails don’t stick all over your nails, there were little gaps around the edges – especially around my cuticle – that caught on my hair as I ran my hands through it in the shower. I think with the combination of hot water and shampoo, I lost about three in the process.

The Impress Nails are probably best for sticking on quickly before heading out for the night – without having to wait for nail polish to dry. If they do happen to pop off, sticking them back on is relatively easy and they last for about a week, but the nails can’t be stored and then re-used. They are definitely a fun way to play with new colours and designs on your nails!
