So, have you seen our ‘How to wear… Brights’ shoot in the September issue? If not, turn to page 86 and fall in love with hot pieces in cobalt, neon, orange, pink and coral. ELLE’s Jo’burg fashion assistant Leigh Peinke shows us how to match bold brights with relaxed tailoring. Here’s the behind-the-scenes scoop from our Jo’burg ELLE belle:

Favourite shot and why?
The opener was my favourite shot. I love the colour combination here, and I think the contrast of the bright colours on the model’s dark skin looks so beautiful. I’m obsessed with the neon trend this season.

Fashion-Shoot

Biggest challenge of this shoot?
The biggest challenge was trying to get our model, Patricia, to squeeze into shoes that were a size too small, and pose as though she was comfortable. She did a brilliant job, though!

One item from the shoot you’ll definitely be sporting this season?
The pleated, coral Country Road skirt from Woolworths is beautiful. I also love the neon cardigan by Donna Gordon at Mememe, and the beaded neckpiece from Metallic Mermaid. Whoops, that’s three things I’ll be taking home!

Any funny moments on shoot day?
Yes, watching photographer Richard rolling around on the floor to get the cropped shots that he wanted. He has so much energy and passion for what he does. This was also the first time I got to work with hair and make-up artist Sylvie Hurford. Sylvie has such a great sense of humour; she entertained me throughout the day.

Your top tip for wearing brights for readers who perhaps are a little scared to do so?
Ease into brights by pairing them with a neutral (safe) colour. Don’t be afraid to try a new colour. This summer is the season of neons and pastels, so ease into a colourful transition with a bright or neon belt or accessory.

Khosie on 9/14/2012: Absolutely love the neon trend, but I think I will ease into it. I've seen some crazy things out there.
