Hong Kong-based businessman Cecil Chao Sze-tsung has offered £40m (about R531m) to any man who can woo his lesbian daughter Gigi Chao who recently married her long-term girlfriend in France.

The 76-year-old is unable to accept his daughter’s sexuality, dismissing reports of her wedding to girlfriend Sean Eav, and has made the offer to any man who is able to convince the 33-year-old to marry in a traditional wedding. He has also offered to set the successful man up with his own business. Even though the couple has been married for five months, Gigi’s father insists she is still single. Same-sex marriages are not recognized in Hong Kong and Chao, who is a regular high-flyer in the city’s social scene was horrified when his daughter made the announcement of her marriage at an event in Beijing last week.

Whether any suitors will get this right remains to be seen, but Gigi has said she finds her father’s offer amusing – and will remain happily married to the love of her life. What do you think of this almost unthinkable offer?
