Our cover star Solange Knowles is making waves as the It-girl of the moment on Twitter and on elle.co.za. She’s also the face of Rimmel’s Lasting Finish 25 Hour Foundation and stars in Rimmel’s ad campaign for the range, showing off skin that looks beautifully radiant and naturally flawless. Love her cover look? We thought so! The mastermind behind Solange’s fresh-faced cover look, make-up artist extraordinaire Algria Ferreira, explains how you can get the look.

Complexion

After prepping skin with moisturiser and illuminator, apply (1) Rimmel Hide the Blemish Concealer, R R69.95, underneath the eyes and in the corners of the eyes. Then apply (2) Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 hour Foundation, R99.95, (in stores mid November) with a combination of sponges and foundation brushes.  (I applied Solange’s foundation very lightly as she has really incredible skin.)

Eyes

Line the inside of your eyes with (3) Rimmel Soft Kohl Eye Pencil in Jet Black, R R64.95, to make the lashes appear fuller. Follow it up with (4) Rimmel Glam Eyes Quad eyeshadow in Smokey Brun, R109.95, on the inside corners of the upper lids and on the brow bone. I gave Solanges’ eyes depth with a bronze shadow on the outside half of the upper lid and around the outside of the bottom lids. Then I used a gel eyeliner on the upper lash line and extended it slightly at the outside corners. The inside lid was lined with bronze waterproof eye pencil, followed by (5) Rimmel Scandal Eyes Mascara, R R99.95, on the lashes. The inside corners of her eyes got just a hint of a sheen just to the nose below the lower lids to open up the inside corners. Lastly, I groomed her eyebrows and extended them just a little.

Cheeks

A bronzer was applied on the cheekbones and also on the temples of the face, followed by a (6) Rimmel 3in1 Blusher, R79.95, in Summer Fever on the apples of the cheeks.

Lips

I applied lip liner after prepping her lips well. I didn’t just line her lips with it but filled them in with it too. Then I applied (7) Rimmel Long Lasting Lipstick in Firecracker, R79.95, over the lip liner. This helps the lip colour stay on for longer and stops it from bleeding.

This look, which is really Solange’s signature look, is absolutely lovely for summer. It is fresh, does not take too long to do and it has staying power for the 25 hour day. The big bonus is that it really complements summer 2012/13’s fashion trends – bold colour, neons and prints – which just happen to be the main elements of Solange’s personal style too!
