Situated high on the hill on the way to the Franschhoek Pass is La Petite Ferme, a wineland escape with awe-inspiring views and fine wines from their very own vineyards. This tucked-away treasure is perfect for wintery weekends away.
Situated just two minutes by car from Franschoek’s main street, La Petite Ferme holds prime position overlooking the vineyards and wide open spaces of the unique ‘French Quarter’, just a 45 minute drive from Cape Town. The farm stretches along the mountainside ensuring that each guest gets a view of the landscapes from either their rooms, dining room or from a comfortable spot on the rolling green lawns.
The room options include either booking a Vineyard Suite or booking one of the rooms in the Manor House. The Manor House offers four separate rooms to choose from, including a Bridal Suite, and share their own swimming pool with breath-taking views overlooking the valley. The sun sets directly across the valley making the porch along the Manor House the perfect place to enjoy sundowners before heading across to the restaurant for dinner. There are five vineyard suites in total and each have their own private plunge pool and a patio overlooking the vineyards. The decor of the rooms is a perfect combination between homely and luxurious. The bathrooms are a sight to behold with beautiful victorian baths and large, spacious showers.
Food and Drink?
The restaurant at La Petite Ferme has a varied and extensive menu and making a booking for dinner is highly recommended. Starters range from dishes such as Crumbed Goats Chèvre with fig preserve, rocket and walnuts, Smoked Ostrich Carpaccio with spanspek, creamy gorgonzola, rocket and toasted pumpkin seeds and Cold Cold Smoked Salmon Tartare with lemon chive, white bean purée, sun-dried tomato and crostini, while the mains include Pork Belly with curry sauce served with basmati rice, toasted coconut, tomato sambal and crackling crumbs, Beef Fillet with pont neuf potato, pickled onion and garlic parsley hollandaise, Slow Roasted Leg of Venison en crépinette with honey carrot purée, baby carrot, couscous, biltong and roasting jus and many more to choose from. However, the highlight of the culinary experience was definitely the breakfast the following morning, where they served an array of pastries, cold meats, granola and fruit on the buffet, and mouth-watering options from the hot menu such as salmon with soft scrambled eggs and a flapjack stack!
