Features writer Sarah Koopman needed a break and boy, did she get one! Luxury downtime at Mount Grace Country House & Spa in the hills of the Magaliesberg restored her ELLE spirit. Here is how:
‘The first thing that struck me about Mount Grace was how quiet it was. There was no way I wasn’t going to be able to relax here. After checking in, my bags were loaded on to a golf cart and I was driven up to my room. The property is really quite big, with most of the rooms situated up in the hills, so the resort has a fleet of golf carts that shuttle guests to different areas – all it takes is a call from your room to reception.
One of the highlights of the weekend, besides the delicious food, beautiful grounds and friendly staff was definitely the incredible spa which promises an ‘oasis of tranquility to ensure you emerge refreshed in body, mind and spirit’ – and that is exactly what I found. I was lucky enough to experience the new African Poultice treatment massage, which encompasses healing and rejuvenation properties. It was also a little bit of a learning experience for me, this being the first time I’d heard of a poultice, which is a muslin wrap containing a special blend of herbs and natural ingredients. It is usually warmed to promote relaxation and stimulation. The warmth also releases powerful aromas, allowing whoever is being treated to inhale these and enjoy the healing properties of the herbs and plants used.
I didn’t want to leave the treatment room after it was done – I was so relaxed and my muscles felt so supple that I couldn’t imagine doing anything other than sleeping. With 18 treatment rooms and over 15 different facials, body wraps and massage treatments, there is something to conquer every last ounce of stress. The spa also offers a Jacuzzi and sound flotation pool – allowing you to totally lose track of time.’
The resort is perfect for couples retreats or wedding parties and unwinding is in every aspect of it – from leisurely dining (we were treated to a gourmet picnic) to feeling like you are completely removed from the world.’
Villa Rooms are fitted with every amenity you need to put up your feet and relax
