If you haven’t entered ELLE Boss yet, let our 2016 finalists show you why you should. We caught up with Carla Ferreira of SaltyCrax Backpackers to talk about how entering ELLE Boss changed her business.

What have you been up to since the competition? Anything exciting to report?

2017 has proven to be one of my best years so far, my company have grown; with new properties acquisitions, increased turnover and created further employment opportunities.   Our NPO has established a new clinic, soup kitchen and ECD school in a township community that has no immediate access to such facilities. I am currently a finalist in Standard Bank  Top Women Entrepreneur of the year awards and won Xtraordinary Women for December 2016.

What was the ELLE Boss experience like for you?

It was an honour to be amongst South Africa’s most inspiring and influential women.

What value did participation in ELLE Boss provide for your business and for you?

The application process alone has allowed me to reflect on my past achievements and recognise how far I have come.  Often we are so busy in the day-to-day running of our companies that we forget to reflect and appreciate what we have accomplished.

As an ELLE Boss finalist, I had the opportunity to attend the awards ceremony and see first-hand the amazing work that women are doing in our country.  This made me want to strive and achieve more.

Why should entrepreneurs enter ELLE Boss?

It is a great opportunity that forces you to reflect on your own life, acknowledge your accomplishments and access at your goals in life.

What advice would you give women who want to enter?

You don’t need to be the CEO of a big corporate company to enter or win.  Take the time to reflect on your achievement and you will be surprised in how much you have accomplished.

What is next for you and your business?

Currently, we are launching an internship program, available for local and international students and recent graduates, to bridge the gap between companies in need and people looking for work experience. I believe cross cultural exchange is so important in creating worldly citizens that have a better understanding and acceptance of cultures, ultimately creating a united civilization. After that, take over the world.
