We are so proud of our ‘Body Beautiful’ beauty shoot on page 102 of ELLE’s November issue. It’s our body-strong special and offers top tips on how to get your body beach ready. ELLE beauty editor Lynette Botha gives us an insider’s view into what happened on shoot day.

What was the inspiration for this shoot?

Every year our November issue has a big focus on bodies and getting ready for summer. This year we wanted to highlight the importance of strong, fit, healthy bodies rather than thin bodies. It’s about embracing the body you have and ensuring you’re fit and healthy, first and foremost.

Where did you shoot?

We shot on Long Beach in Cape Town and were hosted by The Last Word Long Beach Hotel. We got our own suite to set up hair and make-up and to use as our base for the day. The staff members were so accommodating and helpful – bringing us trays and trays of coffee (it was a cold and windy day) and looking after our every need.

Were there any challenges on shoot day?

Yes – the weather! We had been doing weather checks for two weeks before the shoot date and on the morning of our shoot Cape Town seemed to be pretty sunny…except for Noordhoek! But, we made the most of it. Luckily our room had direct access to the beach, so when the sun came out we dashed down to the beach to make the most of the light.

So, it all came together in the end?

Yes, we were very happy with the end result. The models were the super-stars of the day – bracing the wind and cold in bikinis and swimsuits, always with smiles on their faces and lots of energy.

Make-up for the beach – yay or nay?

This is a personal preference, I think, but less is definitely more: a tinted moisturiser or BB cream that has an SPF, a dash of bronzer, waterproof mascara, lip protectant or balm and a big smile!

Must-haves in your beach bag?

Sun cream (nothing less than an SPF 30), a floppy sunhat, big sunglasses, a great beach read and a big bottle of water to ensure you’re well-hydrated all day long.
