We’re gearing up for this season’s sportswear-inspired simplicity and so is ELLE fashion editor Asanda Sizani. Her shoot on page 76 of the October issue showcases this modern trend. It’s all about sportswear (to wear everywhere except the gym, of course) and less is luxe. Asanda dishes on the shoot here:

Shoot day is always exciting. Inspiraton came from this season’s big athleticism trend and the Olympics. We wanted to show modern sportswear with a futuristic twist. So we incorporated white with sportswear-inspired details like rope, making sure to include transparent plastics, metallics and sleek tailoring.

Shoot

Pops of neon, shimmery eye make-up and sleek flatforms, metallic platform-sneakers and minimalist wedges.

In terms of make-up, we decided on a bare face with a hint of highlighter and strong, bright graphic eyes.

Toni Greenberg and Fiona Gentry were responsible for the flawless hair and make-up.

Model Juanel McKenzie had quite a workout. She posed as a gymnast throughout the shoot by lifting herself onto the scaffolding on set or mustering up all her strength to hold on to the bars.

Shoot-Day

For hair, I loved the idea of a long blunt fringe that is sleek and edgy.

October-Fashion-Shoot

We got most of the key pieces straight from the runway at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Cape Town – like this pleated Leigh Schubert dress.

ELLE On Shoot Day

We loved this structured Selfi skirt, which was also straight off the MBFWCT runway.

Juanel looked the part even when he just perched elegantly on the bars.

Behind-The-Scenes

White separates, like this crisp blazer from Edgars, were refreshing among the intense neons.

Styling
