ELLE chats to Tori Tatham of Kiss, Blush and Tell about what it takes to be a beauty blogger, her offline thoughts and a few of her favourite beauty treats.
1.Why did you start blogging?
I often got questions from friends and family about their beauty routines, my thoughts on various products and their skin dilemmas, so I started my blog kissblushandtell.com as a way to share my knowledge.
2.Tell us about your love affair with beauty
I chose to study beauty straight after school and, even though I ended up studying again and not working in the industry, it has always been of interest to me.
3.What advice can you give to aspiring beauty bloggers?
It’s all about knowledge. Learn about skin and try everything you can get your hands on – this is the only way you will be able to form your own opinion, which is ultimately why you will start attracting your readers.
4.Top three ‘things not to do’ as a beauty blogger
Don’t be biased, don’t offer advice with no background knowledge and don’t be rude to your fellow bloggers (they are the ones who will support you more than anyone else!).
5.Your five best beauty products
1.Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex, R565 – It is an old favourite for many people and for good reason – a real star product.
2.!QMS 24H. Cream, R770 – I’ve used this for ages and swear by it. It is great for my dry skin and sinks in amazingly. My skin always looks plump and radiant.
3.Piz Buin In Sun Lipstick SPF 20, R60 – It hydrates lips amazingly, protects them with a good SPF and makes for the perfect lipstick base – a real gem!
4.Clarins Beauty Flash Balm, R395 – my go-to pre-make up moisturiser when I need that extra bit of radiance. It does what it says and keeps your make-up looking fresh for hours!
5.La Mer The Concentrate, R2 720 for 30 ml – Perfect for an extra bit of TLC. It feels like silk and leaves my skin feeling cared for and soothed. Worth every penny!
6.Tell us your what favourite make-up trend is for winter 2013
I am loving the statement brows. I have always loved the fresh, natural look when it comes to make-up and statement brows work really well with this.
7. You are an ELLE Beauty Awards judge; what does this mean to you?
It was such an honour being asked to be on the judging panel, especially with some other really prominent ladies in the beauty industry. ELLE is a magazine I have always loved, so I am really proud to be able to share my opinion with their readers.
8.Top beauty tip:
Cleanse, cleanse, cleanse! Clean, build-up free skin should be everyone’s number-one focus – this way the rest of your skincare products will penetrate and work best.
9.Top three beauty blogs you follow
10.Favourite SA spa and why:
My favourite spa would have to be Librisa Spa at The Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town – I love the personal touch of a smaller spa.
