By now you’re familiar with the Maboneng Precinct and how much we love the fresh breath of creativity it is breathing into Jo’burg’s city centre. Now Adidas, one of the brands internationally renowned for its undeniable cool factor, is bringing five internationally recognised artists to the Maboneng area. These creative minds will be creating six large-scale murals dedicated to the city’s vibrant energy this month.

After the success of the community art projects I ART WOODSTOCK and I ART SOWETO last year, it was decided to give I ART JOBURG more of an international flavour. This led to invites for world-famous street artists Steve ‘ESPO’ Powers and the Icy Sign Team from New York, Spanish artist Remed who paints African-inspired cubist works and Roa from Belgium who is famous for his animal paintings. Local artists Cameron Platter from Durban and Cape Town graffiti artist Falco have been invited to collaborate with their international counterparts.

From 27 to 30 September, celebrate STR/CRD/12 weekend at Maboneng where Adidas Originals will be screening Love Letter To You, Steve ‘ESPO’ Powers’ documentary, as well as I ART JOBURG talks – both free of charge!

Thandy on 9/19/2012: This is so beautiful. I love how the city is welcoming ART into the city. That's one thing I noticed when I was in Berlin how much ART is all over the city. Though not so colourful but the sculputures etc said so much! Now I hope Durban can take a lead and do the same. Which makes me wonder what happened to RED! This was such a cool idea to bring art to the people of Durban...
