Fashion interns Araffa Mpungwe and Holly Herman let us in on their fashionable day out on Bree Street.

‘Araffa and I headed off for what I would say is one of the most visually appealing stores we have been to in a while – the Missibaba and Kirsten Goss Shop at 229 Bree Street in Cape Town.

Missibaba

We had a lovely warm welcome from Lindsay and Robyn at the store. On arrival you cannot help but be drawn to the bright colours and lingering smell of leather on the right, where there is a mosaic of handbags on the wall. All different shapes and sizes, all beautifully handcrafted. Not to mention the exquisite leather earrings and necklaces.

On the other side of the store is the Kirsten Goss jewellery where we got to have a bit of playtime (sometimes it’s easy to forget that you’re not actually shopping but sourcing for ELLE). This side of the shop is also boasting bright colours, from chunky stone necklaces to beaded earrings; all of the jewellery has an aspect of colour to it. We both found our favourite pieces, which we tried on.

The synergy between the two brands lies in the fact that they are both South African and handcrafted; each piece is unique in some way. Their new store is really something and the position it is in could not be more suitable (just ask managing editor Pam Hothi and deputy editor Jenna Robbertse). The lingering smells from the next-door gem, Sababa, told us so.

Sababa is a deli café where you can enjoy some of the most delicious salads, meat dishes and baked treats. There is an energy to the deli that makes you want to stay longer; it’s always buzzing.’

For aspiring fashion interns at ELLE. Heads up:

1. You will get to know all of the parking marshalls, and well. Since sourcing merchandise is top of your to-do list as an intern, you will be doing a lot of parking. ELLE Belles, meet Mamie, who makes sure her presence is felt on Bree Street.

Fashion-Sourcing

2. A pair of flats is essential for sourcing.

Must-Have-Shoes

3. Keep your eyes open – you may be sourcing at one store but you never know what you’ll see along the way. We spotted this seriously stylish ELLE Belle. Love the shoes, love the bag, love it all!
