In their often considered or co-ordinated looks on social media, these are the eight local couples who keep us glued to our (cellphone)screens with their sense of style and cool factor.
Rharha and Petit Noir
We are still not over the creative duo’s wedding – both of them. But to be fair, newlyweds Rharha and Yannick have always been very much insync. They are a culmination of art, music and fashion in human form.
Dineo Moeketsi and Solo
The actress, presenter and award-winning hip-hop artist are red carpet darlings in every sense of the word. Often in local designs like Quiteria & George at various events on the social calendar, they were recognized recently by SA Style Awards, clinching the Most Stylish Couple award.
Riky Rick and Bianca Naidoo
Having appeared together in Woolworths’ campaign last year, and often decked out in head to toe Gucci, Ricardo and Bianca, are parents of two, and a beautiful, stylish and musical family. King Kotini is known to have an irreverent approach to style and he loves good threads.
Mihlali Ndamase and Banele Mbere
Despite their assertions that they are not engaged (at least just yet), the sparkler on her finger certainly got people talking this year. The beauty blogger and one half of the Major League DJ duo serve style. Mihlali is adored for her hair switch-ups, makeup tutorials and feminine style, while he stands out behind the DJ booth in hero jackets, statement eyewear and graphic tees. Look out for Mihlali in the latest Superbalist x Ariel campaign talking about the power of colour.
Mathahle Stofile and Siphiwe Mpye
She is a respected name in the beauty industry, a former magazine Beauty Editor and currently, founder of Matte Project, a catalyst for conversations among women of colour about beauty. He is a former men’s magazine Associated Editor, entrepreneur and founder of Noted Man. He’s oh so dapper, and she’s oh so chic, especially in her signature dewy skin and red lip. Their style is refined and polished, and together, they symbolize style and substance. Mathahle recently joined the ELLE team as a guest judge ahead of our upcoming ELLE Beauty Awards 2018.
Mzoxolo Gcwabe and Nangi Noruka
He is the co-founder of popular lifestyle brand Head Honcho and creative director of The Plug, she is an Art Director and talented illustrator. The parents to the adorable Lulu – who has her own Instagram page, are a permanent fixture in the hip-hop scene, think Pop Bottles. PS, Pop Bottles Mauritius will be bringing the heat from 15 – 18 December, and we expect to see the urban streetwear looks we have come to know Mzo and Nangi for there.
Enhle Mbali Maphumulo and Black Coffee
She’s an actress, founder of SE Preggoz, and our July cover star earlier this year. A global heavyweight in the music industry, he needs no introduction. We love their solid married life, adorable kids and travel goals, especially when casually chilling on a yacht. Black Coffee’s style includes premium designer brands such as Givenchy, Balmain and Off-White, but occasionally mixing in local brands like MaXhosa by Laduma. Hers includes local designers like Gert Johan Coetzee. No matter how expansive her wardrobe probably is, this girl isn’t too fazed about repeating a dress, just like us.
Ayanda Thabethe and Dash
When the TV Presenter and owner of Liyanda Experience won her SA Style Award recently, her Dream Team bae Dash was by her side. He has appeared in a Topshop in-store campaign this year, and has been recognised by local media for his eccentric personal style. Ayanda’s Most Stylish Media Personality award is well deserved.
