Simon and Mary have introduced their new range with the 50/50 campaign shot by Trevor Stuurman.
The collection uses new materials for a fresh spin on a classic favourite. The much-loved Simon and Mary icon, the cricket hat, has been refashioned into a sports-luxe item featuring a felt crown and hemp brim.
The collection lookbook, inspired by the photographic work of Malick Sidibé, reflects a wide range of influences and tips its proverbial hat to the safari, Jimi Hendrix and Pablo Escobar.
"The shoot was an absolute labour of love," said Trevor Stuurman, who worked alongside stylists-turned-models The Sartists and Nikki Zakkas to create the lookbook.
Reflective of the spirit of 50/50, a tribute to the fusion of opposites, the resulting lookbook is truly a collaboration. "We all gave our opinion on direction in terms of where we want[ed] to take the shoot ... [to] meaningfully expose the kaleidoscope of textures, colours and feels," said Wanda of The Sartists.
The introduction of hemp seems to signal a shake up of Simon and Mary's established visual language. "We are busy working on some new styles," says milliner Dean Pozniak. "Nothing is concrete yet but we are toying with a bucket hat design as well as some peak caps."
