We love when doing good becomes fashionable and local fashion brand, 46664 – established in 2002 as an independent NPO and the vehicle for Nelson Mandela’s global HIV/Aids awareness and prevention campaign – has made the first move as a fashion label to contribute to South African education.

The library at Parkdene Primary School in Kraaifontein in the Western Cape is the first of three 46664 libraries that will be funded by income generated from  sales of the fashion brand. The other libraries will open at schools in Bizana in the Eastern Cape and Danhauser in KwaZulu-Natal in the next month. The libraries form part of the Mandela Day Library Project run by Cape Town-based NGO Breadline Africa in association with the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory.

The library at Parkdene Primary School serves 1 307 learners and has more than 3000 books in a 12 x 3.4 metre refurbished shipping container. It is fitted out with shelves, desks, chairs and other equipment.
